Mitogenic activity of cementum components to gingival fibroblasts.
Cementum forms the interface between root dentin and periodontal ligament through which periodontal connective tissue is attached to root surfaces. We have examined how cementum components influence the biological activities of gingival fibroblasts. Cementum was harvested from freshly extracted human teeth and extracted sequentially with 0.5 mol/L acetic acid, 4 mol/L guanidine-0.5 mol/L EDTA, ...
متن کاملSpin structures of tetragonal lamellar copper oxides.
The spin Hamiltonian of tetragonal lamellar antiferromagnets is shown to contain several novel anisotropies. Symmetry allows bond-dependent anisotropic exchange interactions, which lead to (a) interplane mean-field coupling and (b) an in-plane anisotropy which vanishes classically but arises from quantum zero point energy (QZPE). A similar QZPE involving the interplane isotropic interaction pre...
متن کاملFormation of lamellar structures from spherical particles.
We report disorder to lamellar transition in a system of spherically symmetric particles where the interparticle potential consists of a short-ranged attraction and a longer-ranged repulsion. The system provides a simplified model for aqueous dispersions of colloidal particles and globular proteins that may exhibit stable/metastable clusters or microscopic phases. By using a non-mean-field dens...
متن کاملThe inorganic components of cementum- and enamel-related dentin in the rat incisor.
Recently, we have shown that, in rodent incisors, the crown- and root-analogue dentin (enamel- and cementum-related dentin) show differences in mineralization rates (Beertsen and Niehof, 1986) and composition of the organic matrices (Steinfort et al., 1989). It was the aim of the present study to determine whether these differences were accompanied by differences in the inorganic components. Ra...
متن کاملTwist grain boundaries in three-dimensional lamellar Turing structures.
Steady spatial self-organization of three-dimensional chemical reaction-diffusion systems is discussed with the emphasis put on the possible defects that may alter the Turing patterns. It is shown that one of the stable defects of a three-dimensional lamellar Turing structure is a twist grain boundary embedding a Scherk minimal surface.
